Hypnotherapy FAQ

Will I lose control under hypnosis?

If you don’t want to be hypnotised, you won’t be. Once you are, you aren’t a robot or puppet under the control of the hypnotherapist. You have full control of yourself at all times.

I’ve heard that not everyone can be hypnotised. What If I can’t?

Like all things, people vary. However, modern techniques enable everyone to be hypnotised if they want to and, with practice, improve how easily they can drift into the hypnotic state.

Is it true that only weak minded people can be hypnotised?

Being hypnotised makes use of a range of mental skills, including communication, concentration, visualisation, imagination, and mind-body connection. It’s clever to be able to use your mind like that.

What can hypnotherapy be used for?

Hypnotherapy can be used to treat a long list of physical and mental health conditions. Take a look at our list of services and follow the links for more information, or contact us.

What about stage hypnotism? Is hypnotherapy like that?

Stage hypnotism is entertainment. It’s nothing like hypnotherapy. Just like a magician doesn’t perform actual magic. Someone under hypnosis has free-will and won’t bark like a dog.

Is hypnotherapy scientifically proven?

Yes. Numerous studies have found that hypnotherapy is effective, for numerous conditions, and changes in brain activity during hypnosis can be seen using brain scanning technologies.

Can I get stuck in the hypnotic trance state?

No. No one ever has. If the hypnotherapist stop speaking (e.g. disconnected zoom session), you’d simply return to your normal state. If you were very tired, you could possibly nap but you’d be fine.

Do hypnotherapist require specific qualifications?

Absolutely. Our hypnotherapists are fully qualified, recognised by the industry professional body, and fully insured to provide all the hypnotherapy services we offer.

Will I reveal all my secrets when I’m hypnotised?

Most treatments don’t involve talking under hypnosis. If your treatment does, or you choose to talk, you maintain the same free-will that allows you to withhold information or lie at any other time.

Is being in a hypnotic state weird or scary?

No. You go into hypnotic states all the time, maybe every day. ‘Zoning out’ while driving or watching TV, daydreaming, even getting lost in a good book, are al hypnotic states. It’s perfectly natural.

Is hypnosis like sleep? Do I lose awareness of what’s going on?

No. In fact, quite the opposite. During sleep, your mind and body are disengaged. During hypnotherapy your mind is calm but actively engaged in your treatment.

Can treatment be provided remote / COVID-safe?

Yes. We can provide your treatment to you, in the comfort of your own home, via Zoom or similar. All you need is a computer or phone and stable internet connection. Contact us for more.
